| Planning applications from parishioners are in the first
instance sent to WBC, who in turn sends copies to the Parish
Council. A further copy of each application is sent to the
Pangbourne Library, where it may be viewed by interested parties.
The Planning Committee examines each application and makes
recommendations to either support or object to it for
ratification by the full Council. Comments have to be made within
a three week period, during which time visits are made to the
property concerned and, where possible, adjacent house owners.
Although the Parish Council itself has no power to grant or
refuse an application, it can draw WBC’s to any matter
about which it and other parishioners have concerns. It can also
point out areas where an application does not comply with the
Village Design Statement, a document accepted by WBC as being of
material consideration. Because of the short time period and the
number of applications to be processed, this Committee has to
meet at least once every month in addition to the full Council
meetings. |
| Most applications are decided WBC’s planning
department, but if ten or more parishioners object to a
particular application or if our District Councillor is so
minded, the application is referred to the Eastern Area Planning
Committee made up of WBC councillors at which interested parties
may make verbal representations, usually for not more than five
minutes. |
