Village Hall Extension – Update

In October confirmation was received that Pangbourne Village Hall had received a grant of £50,510 from BIFFA towards Project 1, bringing the total of monies raised to £195,000 so far. A further £30,000 is still required & fund raising efforts need to continue - there are still mugs for sale, available at The Spinney or Parish Office, also ‘Bricks’ from the Parish Office, Liz White (984 3043) or June Hughes (984 1346).

With the BIFFA funding, the Parish Council was able to sign a contract with Bernard Noble of Applysystems to commence Project 1. Applysystems is a local firm with a proven track record - having recently worked on Brimpton, Chievely and Woolhampton Village Halls. The contract was signed on November 26th with work starting almost immediately - the contract period of 24 weeks means the project is due for completion by end of May.

A few days were lost before Christmas due to the theft, on two consecutive nights, of heavy equipment from the secure site behind the hall and further days lost because of bad weather in January. These days have now been made up and the project, which is being supervised with great care and attention by Michael Hayes and Dennis Jones and now at the half way point, is on time and within budget. The Parish Council and Village Hall Committee are very grateful to both of them for all the time and expertise they are giving to this project.

In the meantime, the Big Lottery Team have been to Pangbourne and made their assessment for the lottery funding for Project 2. The chances of getting through to Stage 2 were 25%; the chances of success this time are higher – with a 75% chance of an award being made. The Big Lottery announcement will be made in late March.

Apologies are made to all current users for the disruption during the building work but we hope, when completed, the extended hall will more than compensate for that as it continues play an important and enhanced role in the daily life of the village. Also the surrounding area, once landscaped, will be a much needed improvement and the area no longer an eyesore.

Thanks are given to all who have contributed so far because - without you - this project would not have been possible and we hope that those who have not yet contributed might now care to do so. With the completion of the two stages of this Project, Pangbourne should have an improved amenity of which it can be proud.
