Road Closure – B471 Whitchurch Hill

Urgent gas mains replacement – Whitchurch Hill, B471 – planned road closure

From the 27 July to 21 September 2020, SGN will commence a programme of work to replace the gas main on Whitchurch Hill B471 from the junction of High Street to just short of the junction of Goring Heath Road.

The gas main being replaced has a history of leaks, and is being replaced with a new plastic pipe. This will ensure gas can be delivered safely and efficiently to the local area and will reduce the risk of further leaks in the future. This essential work has been given priority to ensure network integrity is maintained. The work is being completed during the summer when the demand on the gas network is significantly reduced and the roads are quieter than normal during the school holidays.

Work will start on 27 July under traffic lights then a closure will be in place from 24 August to 21 September. The closure will be located on the B471 from the junction with Hartslock Bridleway to the junction with Lower Hitch.

There will be no through access for vehicles for the duration of the closure. Pedestrian and cycle access will be maintained, and access arrangements will be in place for residents/properties located within the closure. Those impacted will be informed in advance of local arrangements.

A signed diversion will be in place for vehicles coming in to the area, however local road users will have alternative routes they will naturally use to avoid the closure.

There will be no planned interruptions to local gas supplies whilst this work is completed other than those properties previously contacted.
