VE Day Commemorations BBC Radio Berkshire

VE Day 75 Celebrations at Radio Berkshire

BBC Radio Berkshire have plans that they think might be of interest to many local people whilst they are stuck at home and they have asked us to share …

With so many events cancelled or restricted for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May, we wanted to come up with a way for people across Berkshire to mark the occasion and express their pride in our country and to remember and honour the men and women of WW2.

BBC Radio Berkshire is asking people to get creative and make their own special ‘Great British Bunting’ to hang in their windows.  Bunting can be decorated with pictures of soldiers who fought on the front line or those who worked on the Home front, it could be your grandad in the Navy or your great grandmother who worked for the RAF. Or you could draw a poppy to commemorate the fallen, a dove to celebrate lasting peace or a rainbow to symbolize hope. All the guidance and inspiration you need to make your bunting from whatever you have at home can be found at bbc.co.uk/makeadifference.

We’re asking people to send us their pictures and to tag us (@BBCBerkshire) in their social media as well as using the hashtags #GreatBritishBunting and #VEDay75 so that all the effort people put in can be shared far and wide. We’d also love anyone to get in touch with us to share their family stories of VE Day via social media or radio.berkshire.news@bbc.co.uk.

It’s been great to get the support of VE Day 75 Pageantmaster, Bruno Peek on the VE Day 75 website (veday75.org).

We’d love it if you were able to get all of Berkshire wonderfully decorated for the celebrations.
