Working for the Community!
Pangbourne Parish Council
Pangbourne Parish Council is the first level of local government in this area and as such has certain duties and discretionary powers which help to preserve and enhance the quality of life in our community.
The Council comprises eleven members, elected every four years, who meet formally once a month in the Village Hall, where the Councils office is located.
The day-to-day business is managed by the Clerk to the Council who is present in the office from 9.30 to 12.30 on Tuesdays and from 14.00 to 17.00 on Thursdays.
Any member of the public may attend a Council meeting and speak in an open session from 20:00 until 20:15.
What We Do!
Working within the annual budget agreed with and largely funded by West Berkshire Council, the Parish Council:
- Acts as the first filter for planning applications, on which it makes recommendations to West Berkshire Council.
- Seeks to protect and, wherever possible, improve the recreational facilities, allotments and footpaths within the village boundaries.
- Looks after the cemetery.
- Works with the Neighbourhood Wardens and the police to increase community safety and discourage anti-social behaviour.
- Works with West Berkshire Council and other public bodies to improve car parking, street lighting, road safety, highway maintenance, public shelters and seats.
- Produces a long-term Village Plan for Pangbourne covering all relevant aspects of life in our community. Originally written in 2003, the Plan was revised in 2010 after consultation with residents and has now been approved by West Berkshire Council.
