M4 J12 Roadworks

UPDATE: We have been advised that the works have been extended once again until the 27th November 2021, with the exception of the nights of 110th and 11th November.

UPDATE: We have been advised that the traffic light upgrade works have now been extended until the 30th October 2021.

UPDATE: We have been advised that work to upgrade the traffic signals around junction 12 of the M4 has been delayed by a week. 

The overnight (between 9pm and 6am) closures at the junction are now scheduled as follows:

• Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 July – Closure of the west side of the junction
• Wednesday 7 to Friday 9 July – Closure of the east side of the junction
• Monday 12 July to Friday 16 July – Closure of the east side of the junction
• Monday 19 July to Friday 17 September – Lane closures on the roundabout
• Monday 20 September to Friday 1 October – Closure of the west side of the junction
• Monday 4 October to Friday 15 October – Closure of the east side of the junction

Highways England have sent us the following information:

M4 Junction 12 Traffic Signal Replacement

We will shortly be carrying out work to upgrade the traffic signals around junction 12 of the M4 at Theale (Berkshire). Work will involve replacing the traffic signals around junction 12 with new LED signals and controllers. The refurbishments will include upgrading to extra low voltage cabling and equipment to reduce our carbon footprint and energy costs.

For the safety of our workforce and customers, different sections of the roundabout will be closed overnight (between 9pm and 6am). These sections are currently scheduled as follows, but are subject to change:

Signed diversions will be in place via adjacent junctions for closures of the M4 slip road; in addition, the following diversions will be in place for closures of the A4 exits from the roundabouts:

• Closure of the access from roundabout to A4 Bath Road (Theale side) – traffic will be diverted towards Reading centre, then the A329 to Pangbourne, then A340 to Theale
• Closure of the access from roundabout to A4 Bath Road (Calcot side) – traffic will be diverted along Bath Road, then north on the A340 to Pangbourne, along the A329 towards Reading centre, then along the A4 to Calcot

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles on blue light calls.

Please note that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. We’ll advertise the closures on yellow signs placed in advance at the junction, and on our South-East Twitter page (@HighwaysSEAST)
