PANGBOURNE BOWLS CLUB

A date for your diary - Open Day Saturday April 13th

At last spring comes to the Thames Valley after that long wet winter and now the picturesque Pangbourne bowling green is in better condition than ever. Submerged in January it is now just as a bowling green should be - lush and verdant thanks to the efforts of our stalwart green keeping team. Perfect for bowling! So why not try it out yourself by coming to the Open Day from 2 p.m. onwards? You can practise bowling with club members and other visitors, and enjoy a cuppa or something stronger – yes, the bar will be open. All you need to remember is to wear a flat pair of shoes such as trainers and we do the rest, in particular providing bowls suitable for you.

Bowling is a marvellous hobby for all ages – fresh air and exercise, friendly fellow bowlers and the opportunity to play both socially in the club and competitively against other clubs. On Open Day the club welcomes not only beginners but also the more experienced and those who may have played other sports and are considering a change of hobby.

You don’t need to live in Pangbourne to join the club – we have members from many nearby villages and areas. If you do join you can have coaching (for free!) and then a variety of opportunities to bowl as the club plays mixed teams, ladies only and men only matches against other local clubs, in friendlies and in two local leagues. In addition there are club only competitions throughout the season and every Monday afternoon. Very quickly you will feel at home sharing and discussing your hobby with other friendly bowlers.

The subscription for a new member is only £50 for a year. On Open Day club secretary Alan will be on hand armed with membership application forms ready to answer your queries. The green is, of course, at the far end of the recreation ground to the left of the tennis courts and the pavilion. If the Open Day date is not convenient for you please visit our web site for further information on the club where contact numbers for Alan and myself can be found. Our web site: https://pangbournebowls.co.uk/ The club, now 102 years old, is keen to recruit new members. Could you be one of them?
