M4 Theale Junction Works

Please plan ahead: Phase two of our essential bridge repairs is continuing at junction 12 of the M4 Theale Interchange, near Reading.
Last year, phase one included repairing the concrete and replacing the expansion joints on the west bridge at the interchange. It has also been re-waterproofed and resurfaced to maintain structural integrity.
Now, we are making progress with phase two and carrying out the same essential repairs and refurbishments, but at the east bridge this time. We split the works to repair each bridge individually to keep as much of the network open as possible and to try to minimise the impact on traffic flow.
The traffic management needed is mainly reduced lanes and overnight closures:
👉 Reduced lanes: East side of junction reduced to two lanes running, 6 January to 15 March
👉 Overnight closures: East side of junction, including the eastbound on slip to the M4, 6 January to 7 February, 9pm to 6am, Monday to Saturday only, and 10 February to 15 March, 9pm to 6am, Monday to Saturday only.
👉 However, we also need a full weekend closure on the east side of the junction, including the eastbound on slip to the M4. This will be 9pm Friday 28 February to 6am Monday 3 March.
A signed diversion will be in place: please plan ahead, expect delays and leave plenty of extra time for your journey.
